Predicting and Understanding Diversity Benefits from Variety Mixtures
external page PreDiMIX is a collaborative project with ETH Zurich, Agroscope,
the University of Zurich, and IPK Gatersleben aiming to understand and
predict the benefits of wheat variety mixtures. The project investigates
how wheat mixtures can enhance yield and disease suppression. The goal
is to understand what makes mixtures beneficial and to identify which
combinations will perform best.
Our group has sown two ~1-ha field sites in Eschikon and Uitikon, sown in autumn 2025 with pure stand and mixtures of 150 wheat varieties. Selected mixtures are also included under the Field Phenotyping Platform (FIP). The large trial fields will be monitored using UAS-based imaging to capture canopy, structural, and phenological traits that support predicting mixture performance.
