external page PHENET is a European initiative advancing phenotyping and envirotyping services to improve prediction of crop performance across diverse environments. Whin PHENET, we work on the GxE cereals use case, which aims to understand how wheat genotypes perform under varying conditions across Europe and to develop scalable phenotyping methods. To support this goal, we conduct coordinated multi-site wheat trials with partners in Switzerland, Croatia, Germany, France, and Portugal. Our approach integrates sensing at multiple scales: high-throughput phenotyping in our Field Phenotyping Platform (FIP), handheld instruments, UAS-based imaging, IoT networks capturing phenology and soil water status, and satellite observations. These data streams allow us to quantify GxE interactions and validate digital trait extraction.

Experiments take place both in the FIP and in a nearby on-farm trial equipped with IoT sensors in collaboration with Strickhof. The 2025-2026 season marks the second year of field trials.
